5 . Swiss Tax and VAT Policy Update from 2025

The Swiss Tax Rate Policy Update Notice: Local customs will adjust the taxation rules starting January 1, 2025.

The key updates are as follows:

 

1. Duty Tax and VAT Rate

(1) Adjustment Details:

- Change in the name of taxable item: The original Duty Tax will be changed to Import Tax.

- Adjustment of VAT rate: The VAT tax rate remains unchanged at 8.1%.

(2) Tax Rate Calculation:

For parcels shipped to the same recipient each day, if the total declared value is less than 62 Swiss Francs, they can continue to enjoy the policy of exempting relevant taxes and fees. However, when the cumulative declared value reaches or exceeds 62 Swiss Francs, the customer will be required to pay the relevant VAT and customs duties. The VAT is charged at 8.1% of the declared value, and customs duties are based on the actual approval by the destination country's customs.

 

2. VAT Account Information Requirements:
(1) For platforms with an annual transaction volume exceeding CHF 100,000, a Swiss VAT number must be registered to remit VAT directly to Swiss customs.

(2) It is strongly recommended that buyers provide their VAT account number for orders shipped to Switzerland, including the UID and CSP (deferment account reference number). The format for the UID account number is: CHE - 123.456.788. If the VAT account number is not provided, leading to issues such as incorrect taxation, duplication, or destruction during customs clearance or delivery, the buyer will be responsible for any resulting consequences. In this case, we will only act as a coordinator to resolve the issue.
